Queens solver

Only here Reads your board from a screenshot right in your browser, then gives hints that explain the next deduction (squeezed colours, shared neighbours) instead of just showing the answer.

For LinkedIn Queens and any board where each row, column and colour gets one queen and no two queens touch. Load a screenshot or paint the colours, then play with hints.

Pick a colour, then tap squares to paint them. Or load a screenshot of the board: it is read in your browser and never uploaded.

How the hints work

Each hint is the simplest deduction left on your board, in the order a person would look for them:

  1. Last free square: a row, column or colour with only one place left gets its queen.
  2. Shared neighbours: squares that every remaining choice of one colour would rule out can't hold a queen.
  3. Squeezed colours: when two colours only have room in the same two rows (or columns), those rows belong to them, so the rest of those rows is ruled out. The same works for any number of colours.
  4. Would leave nothing: a square where a queen would leave some row, column or colour with no free square is ruled out.

"Check board" says whether your board has exactly one solution, whether logic alone can finish it, and whether any of your queens are wrong. The solver itself tries every arrangement row by row, so its answer is certain.

Reading screenshots

The image never leaves your device. It finds the board by its coloured squares, samples the middle of each one and groups the colours into as many regions as the board size you chose. If a square comes out wrong, fix it in "Paint colours".
